My Favorite Breweries in Rochester, Minnesota

One of the best surprises for people moving to Rochester is just how good our local brewery scene is. From creative small-batch beers to great food and live music, Rochester’s breweries have become a big part of what makes this city feel like home. Here are a few of my favorites — starting with the one I consider a must-visit.

🍕 1. Forager Brewery

If you only have time to visit one spot in Rochester, make it Forager Brewery. Not only do they brew some of the most inventive and consistently excellent beers in Minnesota, but they also have what I consider the best casual dining in town.
Their pizzas are unbeatable, the menu is locally inspired, and the atmosphere is always buzzing. On top of that, Forager hosts live music, community events, and art showcases, making it a true gathering place for locals and newcomers alike. Whether you’re sitting by the fireplace in winter or out on the patio in summer, Forager always feels like home.

🍻 2. Little Thistle Brewing Co.

Located just a few minutes north of downtown, Little Thistle has a laid-back, welcoming vibe with one of the best outdoor patios in the city. Their beer list ranges from crisp lagers to hop-forward IPAs, and they regularly host food trucks and live music. It’s a perfect spot to meet friends or relax after a long work week.

🌾 3. LTS Brewing Company

LTS (Life’s Too Short) is all about great beer and good company. Their taproom is spacious and friendly, often filled with locals playing board games, attending trivia nights, or enjoying local food truck pairings. Their “What She’s Having” blonde ale is a local favorite — and they’re always experimenting with new brews.

🎶 4. Thesis Beer Project

A little closer to downtown, Thesis Beer Project brings a creative, energetic feel to Rochester’s beer scene. Known for bold flavors, rotating taps, and an artsy atmosphere, Thesis doubles as a live-music venue several nights a week. It’s a great place to catch local bands and sample something new.

🏞️ 5. Kinney Creek Brewery

As Rochester’s first craft brewery, Kinney Creek deserves a nod for helping start it all. Located near downtown, it’s a comfortable spot to grab a pint before heading out for dinner or a show. They often feature seasonal specialties and collaborations with other local businesses.

🍺 Final Thoughts

Rochester’s brewery scene continues to grow, and it’s one of the reasons so many people fall in love with living here. Whether you’re moving to town, visiting for Mayo, or just looking for a good local spot to unwind, these breweries capture the community spirit that makes Rochester special.
