Where to Golf in Rochester?

If you love golf as much as I do, you’ll quickly find that Rochester has a lot to offer, from championship-level private clubs to scenic public courses that make the most of Minnesota’s rolling hills and tree-lined fairways.

Rochester Golf & Country Club

Rochester Golf & Country Club (RGCC) is my home course and an absolute gem. It’s a Donald Ross-designed course dating back to 1916, known for its immaculate conditioning, classic greens, and a community that makes you feel instantly welcome.

As a member myself, I can say it’s more than just golf—it’s a social hub with a great pool, dining, and family activities year-round. If you’re coming to Rochester for Mayo Clinic, whether as a new resident, fellow, or staff member, RGCC offers special membership incentives that make it surprisingly accessible. It’s worth touring the club to experience the views from the back nine and the sunset patio over the Zumbro River valley.

Somerby Golf Club, Byron MN

Just a short drive west of Rochester sits Somerby Golf Club in Byron, one of Minnesota’s premier private courses. Designed by Tom Lehman and John Fought, Somerby has hosted PGA Tour qualifying events and is consistently ranked among the top courses in the state. The layout is long, strategic, and beautifully maintained. It’s perfect for serious players who enjoy challenging greens and a country-club atmosphere.

Public Courses in Rochester

For public golf, Rochester has several excellent options that make it easy to play a quick round or get out on the weekend without a membership.

Soldier’s Field Golf Course – A convenient city course right in the heart of town, with affordable rates and an easy-walking layout.
Eastwood Golf Course – A favorite among locals, Eastwood features mature trees, rolling terrain, and a great mix of holes.
Northern Hills Golf Course – Located in northwest Rochester, this course offers wide fairways, forgiving rough, and great twilight rates.
Hadley Creek Learning Center – A shorter 9-hole course ideal for beginners or anyone looking to sharpen their short game.

The Jewel Golf Club, Lake City MN

If you’re up for a quick 35-minute drive northeast to Lake City, The Jewel Golf Club is a must-play. Designed by the legendary Hale Irwin, The Jewel winds through bluff country and offers breathtaking Mississippi River Valley views. It’s a true championship-level experience open to the public and easily one of the most scenic courses in southern Minnesota.

Final Thoughts

Whether you’re looking for competitive golf, a family-friendly club, or just a great place to unwind after work, Rochester has a course for every kind of player. If you’re moving here and want help finding neighborhoods close to the best golf courses or exploring club membership options, I’m always happy to help you connect.
